On Saturday, August 13, the Warriors Community Foundation partnered with Wender Weis Foundation for Children, Good Tidings Foundation and Spark SF Public Schools to unveil a refurbished basketball court at Willie L. Brown Jr. Middle School in San Francisco’s Bayview District.
The new court beamed bright in Warriors blue and gold colors as over 50 children from various citywide organizations gathered for the ceremony. The community celebration featured remarks by Board of Education Vice President Shamann Walton, Wender Weis Foundation Founder Amy Wender-Hoch, Good Tidings Foundation Founder and Chairman Larry Harper and Warriors Community Ambassador Adonal Foyle. Following the program, Foyle joined students from Urban Ed Academy, Bayview Hunters Point YMCA and Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club of Hunters Point in a youth clinic led by Warriors Basketball Camp coaches. Families and the children were also able to enjoy treats from local ice cream truck, Little Giant, and collect back to school supplies through the Warriors Backpack Giveaway program.
The court refurbishing at Willie Brown Middle School is part of the Warriors Community Foundation's larger Makin' Hoops Program. Each court is resurfaced and receives new backboards, rims, nets, striping and signage. To date, the Warriors have refurbished more than 60 local courts in the San Francisco Bay Area.
